For Sulwhasoo, we developed The Root of Youth, an episodic series shot in Seoul that follows one host as she traces Korean ginseng from the market stall to the skin.
Each episode was built around a different way of coming to know the root. The first is felt before it's explained, a spa treatment that lets a long flight's exhaustion give way to the ingredient's effect in real time. The second is inherited, built through a shared meal and a friend's own memory of ginseng passed down as care rather than product.
The third is practiced, following the host as she buys the root herself and turns it into a ritual of her own. The fourth is proven, closing the series inside the research center where the people who study ginseng explain what in it actually works.
The approach was to make the host the argument rather than the narrator, who learns the subject on camera, so the work was built to keep that discovery in frame: natural light, ambient sound, and real environments, with a camera that moves when she moves and stills when she listens.
The result is an ingredient introduced the way anyone actually comes to trust one, by watching someone else learn it first.
